In 1900, one cow started it all
When Chris and Matilda Toft were just opening their barn doors as a new dairy farm, there was a cow who provided dependable, delicious milk to their very first customers. This adorable cow was named Tilly — after Matilda Toft herself.
A cow statue still stands in front of Toft Dairy on Venice Road in Sandusky, honoring the first cow to ever produce Toft’s milk. Five generations later, she’s still the reason we do things the way we do — the original recipe for the delicious milk we all love now.
Tilly’s legacy today: “One Quality”
As Toft moves through its second century, Tilly has become the face of our “One Quality” philosophy — our commitment to working closely with all 13 local family farms so everything we produce remains free from the synthetic growth hormone rBST.
That promise is stamped on our packaging as “Tilly Approved,” in honor of the first cow to produce Toft’s milk.
